30th REUNION NEWS:
- February 18th: Another successful meeting. We will be looking into several venues that can hold at least 150 people or more. They are: Downtown Holiday Inn, Elmira Country Club, Warplane Museum, Downtown Elks, and the Elmira V.F.W. We are trying to make this as cost effective as possible. Also, we were able to obtain some e-mail addresses that we hope are still of use. It is important for all of us to send out word that the committee is trying to compile a list of all e-mail addresses. With today's technology, we are trying to avoid having to send out letters by snail mail (US Post Office). Please forward the following e-mail to classmates you have been in contact with: djmm61@yahoo.com. Present at the meeting were: Kate Siglin, Billie Sue DeMott, Tim & Sherry Todd, and Dan Morgan. Our next meeting will be at the Old Pioneer, 7 p.m., March 3rd.
- February 4th: The reunion committee had its first meeting that was very productive. Saturday, July 25th. We decided to have dinner and music. Our future meetings will decide the venue and how big we are going to go. We have chosen a deadline of April 20th to try and figure out how many. Depending on how many, that will determine where to have the reunion. All options are on the table. If we have a huge response then we go big. If not, then something smaller. So mark your calendars, book your flights, fill those gas tanks, take the time off and spread the word. Please pass this e-mail to any and all classmates. The committee will be meeting every two weeks so please send in any and all questions or suggestions. The more ideas the better. If you guys have other e-mails please send them to us. We will place them on the roster. Lets make this one a success. Thank you! Kate & Dan
CLASS NEWS:
Sorry for the delay in posting the updates; I've received a few, which are down below:
- John Dunne (yours truly) would like to announce the birth of his first child, a daughter, A'ishah (pronounced "eye-shah"). She was born on July 18th.
Welcome to the
Elmira (N.Y.) Southside High School
Class of 1979 website.
I would like to ask all of you, my fellow alumni and our former teachers, to
please
send any information, stories,
photographs, or links to websites and blogs you may have, not only on yourselves
and your families, but on other classmates or teachers that may be of interest
to our community (e.g., those who have passed on). For those people who
still live in the Southern Tier or nearby, if they can pass on any information
about current events in
Chemung County
or the Southern Tier, that news would be appreciated, as are suggestions for
additional external links (see the right sidebar).
ALMA MATER
Oh, Alma Mater, fair and bright.
Thy honor we acclaim;
We rally 'round the Green and White
To laud thy noble name.
In thee we students shall renew
Our faith of days gone by,
Across the years we'll live anew
Thy spirit, Southside High.
Oh, dear Southside, thy loving ways
And charms will ever be,
Those memories of golden days;
Those friends and hearts so free.
To thee we pledge thy honor due,
And parting sound thy cheers;
Our thoughts of you, so staunch, so true,
Will live through all the years.
Our thoughts of you, so staunch, so true,
Will live through all the years.
